We only got in 4 holes this morning, that was after going out to Gordonvale for our weekly game. But 150 ex-servicemen were having a special golf day at Gordonvale so we headed back to play at the Cairns club.
It was very expensive for us retired Seniors at $20 per 9 holes. (Gordonvale is only $10 and play all day.)
What a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky when we started our game.
By the time we started on the 4th hole it was getting very dark and storm like.
As you may have guessed the 3 of us play a slow game so after the 4th we waited for a single player behind us to catch up so we could let him play through.
In a matter of 10 minutes the heavens opened up and it poured down. We didn't have raincoats or an umbrella.
We got drenched!! My new clubs on their first game were well and truly christened.
The bloke we waited for told us of a shed we could take some shelter as it is not a good idea to be under a tree in a tropical storm.
By this time the water was up to 6 inches deep on some of the fairways and we had to wade through the water to get to the shed.. We looked and felt like drowned rats.
We were stuck in the shed for about an hour until the rain eased off enough to walk back to the club.
We were too wet to play the 19th hole when we got back to the Club. It was beaut to get home have a warm shower and dry off... It is now 4pm and still raining.
