Today I took the my new SUV for a drive to the Atherton
Tablelands west of Cairns to get some Kms on the clock. I was joined by my good
mates Ken and Steve for the day.
First of all Ken and I drove out to Holloways Beach to pick up Steve before heading out through the sugar cane fields to climb up the Kuranda Range to reach the Tablelands.
Our first stop for ‘smoko’ a coffee break was at the Coffee
Works in the town of Mareeba.
As we continued on the drive we stopped at the Mareeba
airport to look at the vintage aircraft.
We made a lunch stop in the historic old mining town of
Herberton, and called into an antique shop that did meals. It was like a huge
step back into the past.
After a most enjoyable lunch we continued on to visit some
lookouts and the towns of Malanda and Miilla Milla before returning to Cairns.
Late in the afternoon the rain rolled in so we tested the vehicle in the rain
and wet conditions. It handled extremely well.
The day trip covered 450 kms and was a great test for the
vehicle. The new car now has a total of 665 kms.
